Rainy days with your cat: 7 ideas for when it’s gray outside

There is that one moment in September: You open the curtains in the morning, everything outside is grey and wet – and your cat is already sitting at the window, looking at you as if you were personally responsible for the weather.

Rainy days are a bit of an imposition for cats. No rustling in the grass, no birds, no sunbeams on the floor. What remains is you. And that is actually quite a lovely piece of news.

Here are seven ideas on how to turn a grey day into a really good one – for both of you.

1. The window seat gets an upgrade

Even if nothing is happening outside, rain on the pane is cinema for cats. Droplets running down, leaves blowing past – that is often enough. Place a soft blanket on the windowsill, move the armchair a little closer to the window, and you have created the best spot in the apartment.

2. Ten minutes of real hunting play

Not twenty minutes of half-hearted effort, but ten minutes of the real thing. A feather wand, short sprints, a break in between – and in the end, she should actually get to catch the "prey." A hunting game without a sense of achievement frustrates cats more than it exhausts them.

3. A box. Just a box.

You can buy the most expensive toy in the world – the parcel box from yesterday will still win. Cut two holes in it, put a crumpled piece of paper inside, and you’re done. Rainy days are box days.

4. Hide snacks instead of serving them

Distribute a few treats around the apartment: under the corner of the rug, on the scratching post, in an empty egg carton. Searching is work, and work makes you tired. In bad weather, this type of activity is a good substitute for outdoor time.

5. The brushing session

In autumn, the coat starts to change – and suddenly there is undercoat everywhere. A quiet brushing session on the couch is good for the fur, prevents hairballs, and is pure relaxation for many cats. For you, too, by the way.

6. New paths through old rooms

Move a chair, put a board between the sofa and the shelf, hang a blanket over two chair backs. Small changes make the familiar apartment interesting again – and your cat will inspect every inch of it as if she had never seen it before.

7. Doing nothing together

The most underrated activity of all. Blanket over your legs, mug in your hand, cat somewhere on top of you, and the rain providing the backdrop. Cats look for closeness and warmth in bad weather – you don’t have to achieve anything; you just have to be there.

Your side of the couch

While your cat is well-equipped with fur, you need a little support for point seven. Our hoodies are made exactly for that: soft, warm, and with designs that let other cat lovers know immediately where you stand.

To match, you can find everything for the grey season in our autumn collection – and under accessories & gifts, the mug that belongs in your favorite spot.

Rainy days are not wasted days. They are just the days when both of you end up on the same sofa. And honestly: your cat has been waiting for that all week anyway.
